Team spirit and extreme precision for dismantling three lines in record time

Over 90 million euros to renovate and make the production plant in Ruspino – San Pellegrino Terme, (Bergamo), “iconic for the brand, open and transparent”. This is the investment currently being tackled by Sanpellegrino S.p.A., an Italian reference company in the mineral water and non-alcoholic drinks since 1899 and part of the Nestlé group since 1997.

Here, work is in progress to build a “0 Water Impact” Flagship Factory, i.e. a factory designed to actively contribute to the economic, environmental, and social enhancement of the area, thanks to the installation of newly designed equipment to reduce CO2 emissions and ensure the recycling of rainwater.

Part of the project is BBM Service, an Italian company that specialised in the supply of spare parts, machinery, and services for bottling lines and automated packaging. BBM is a long-standing partner of Sanpellegrino, cooperating with the company for maintenance and upgrades on the machines of the Sanpellegrino plant for more than ten years.

Now, Sanpellegrino needed to carry out the conservative dismantling of three glass lines – covering an area of 6,700 square meters and with a nominal capacity of 50,000 bottles/hour each -, for a total of over 100 pieces of equipment. The project was scheduled to start at the end of November 2021 and be completed by the end of the year.

Right from the start, BBM Service ensured the rapid execution of the operations and the complete clearance of the site from all materials and equipment. BBM guaranteed that expectations and timelines would be met, also thanks to an exceptional preventive program of activities.

Following a few months of planning, the actual dismantling work began on 22 November 2021 and was completed on 29 December, involving around fifty BBM technicians working simultaneously: thirty for dismantling, ten for the logistical loading/unloading of machinery, and ten for receiving and storing the goods. BBM Service stood out for its order and precision: the work area was delimited by barriers so that no unauthorized person could access it, and the waste materials were properly disposed of according to the CER code.

In little more than a month, the technical staff cataloged, disassembled, and moved around a hundred machines and accessories to complement the lines; some of the bottling machines were then transferred to the BBM showroom in Lenna (BG), for a complete overhauling aimed at providing state-of-the-art performance and meeting new market requirements.

In addition to the deep knowledge of the machinery, a great strength of theirs is the total management of the decommissioning and disposal part of the lines, providing a real turn-key service. BBM is a company, but it is the people who make the difference: the collaboration and team spirit established between our companies are what has made Sanpellegrino dismantling one of the best references of our Group”.

The days I spent on-site confirmed that I was surrounded by nice and good people, even more than by colleagues and technicians. Although at first, the timeframe required by the client seemed unreal, we were gradually convinced that the operation was complicated, but not impossible.

BBM was able to achieve this result solely by putting in place a plan where very little, if anything, was left to chance.
