The possibility of using modular system even for special tasksis demonstrated by the electric gripper LEG by Schunk, suitable for handling pallets, intermediate layers, and products. With fixed intermediate jaws, customizable fingers in plastics reinforced with carbon fibres and pneumatic ejector, it can handle more pieces at the same time, improving the related performances. The fingers of the gripper can move independently and deposit the products individually; the distance between the fingers changes according to the product and the weight (intervals between 3 and 10 mm). Combining the vacuum effect, distances can be further reduced. For sensitive products with smooth surfaces, thin layer fingers are available, which gently and safely grip the product, either mechanically or by means of vacuum technology. The gripping system, providing for accurate positioning, operates with strokes up to 281 mm per gripper. It is suitable for all tasks requiring highly-automated palletizing and de-palletizing operations, as in the beverage industry.
