Processing and Packaging Machines
For the manufacturers of processing and packaging machines, South America represents 10.5% of exports (source: Ucima 2011). According to the data processed by the Research Center of Ucima, in 2012 exports to Brazil have grown by 19.7% in value compared to the previous year. Total imports of automatic machines in Brazil are growing yearly: 510.1 million Euro in 2012, compared to 480.5 million Euro of the previous year. This means that the market is very receptive, ready for being exploited. Germany ranks first as exporting Country (31.3%), but lost 1.4% in 2012, whereby Italy holds the second position (in 2012 a 30.8% market share) with a 3.5% growth, better than China, Switzerland and Sweden.

Processing Technologies
According to the data supplied by the Research Center of Assofoodtec, exports towards Brazil of “Machines and ovens for bread, biscuits, pastries, and pizza” in 2012 accounted for approx. 7.7 million Euro. Although this has been the most largely exported product to Brazil for this year, the value is far lower than that registered the year before. In fact, in 2011 the exports of this kind of machines generated a value of 21.6 million Euro. In particular, the largest contribution to this item is represented by “machines and equipment for the baking industry for the production of bread, pastries, and biscuits (excluding bakery ovens & dryers for pasta and kneading machines)”. In 2012 this product group reached 4.3 million Euro (i.e. 56% of ovens), whereas in 2011 it had reached 14.2 million Euro and 6.1 million Euro in 2010. Exports towards Brazil of “machines and equipment for mills, feed mills and silos” in 2012 accounted for 3.6 million Euro, with a drop of approx. 16% compared to the previous year. They are mainly “machines, equipment and tools for food and animal feed industry”, making up almost all of this product group. Very positive the export of refrigeration compressors with 3.2 million Euro. Brazil is notably the 7th target Country for “Refrigeration compressors used in refrigeration plants with a rated power higher than 0.4 kW”. The export rate towards Brazil of “machines and equipment dispensing coffee and other hot beverages (household appliances excluded)” is increasing steadily. They grew from approx. 2 million Euro in 2010 and 2011 to more than 3 million Euro in 2012, corresponding to a 48% increase. Exports of commercial refrigeration equipment remained broadly stable. Approximately 2.4 million Euro in 2012, consisting to a large extent of “showcases and counters, refrigerators, different from those for frozen food”. Exports of machines and equipment for the confectionery industry in 2012 reached 2.3 million Euro, very close to the rates of 2010 (2.9 million Euro) after the drop registered in 2011 (1.6 million Euro). Exports of “machines and equipment for the pasta industry (excluding pasta dryers and mixers)” in 2012 with 1.5 million Euro decrease compared to 2011 (2.4 million Euro) and are very far from the value reached in 2010: 12 million Euro, indeed. Exports of “machines and equipment for industrial meat processing” with a value of 1.3 million Euro are very close to the level reached in 2010 and lower than the value of 2011 of 2.6 million Euro. After two years 2010-2011 with values of 2.2 million Euro and 2.8 million Euro respectively, exports of “machines and equipment for fruits and Vegetables processing” returned to a value (634 thousand Euro) similar to that registered in the years before 2010.
