Curd separation from whey

Reda, a leading company in the design of systems for the dairy sector, offers state-of-the-art technological solutions to optimize every stage of the process, starting from whey processing. During cheese production, the residual whey maintains a significant proportion of noble fat.

Next to fats, however, whey also contains fine solid microparticles, which can interfere with later stages of the process. While coarse residues are easily retained by in-line filters, the finer ones require more advanced separation systems. Proper clarification is the first step to get high-value whey. In fact, only a perfectly clean whey allows efficient recovery of serum proteins, lactose and other nutrients.

To meet this need, the company developed centrifugal clarification systems to continuously and effectively separate solid particles from the liquid, improving whey quality and separation efficiency. For small plants, Reda offers the RE-W separator, which integrates a whey cleaning section combined with a skimming section.

For larger installations, the company recommends the RE-P clarifier, to be installed upstream of the skimmer. Both solutions ensure cleaner whey, longer life of the filtration membrane and a higher quality of the final product.
